Loup City is the County Seat of Sherman County, Nebraska. Interstate 80 is located 45 miles south or southwest via Highway 10 through Kearney, or via Highways 281, 2, 11, and 58 through Grand Island. Loup City's proximity to the interstate has allowed the community to attract a variety of people to maintain its population. Loup City is an attractive community with a diverse economic base and a stable population. With a progressive stance, Sherman County is able to prosper and continue its economic and physical growth in the 21st Century. Loup City maintains both professional and service oriented businesses, including grocery, hardware, machining, custom building, technology, and finance.
Sherman Lake, one of Nebraska's largest reservoirs with over 63 miles of shoreline, 3,000 acres of public wildlife habitat, and premier sportfishing, is just a few miles north of town-see photo above.
The City serves as a primary retail market for communities and rural areas in southern Valley and Sherman Counties. The development of a variety of housing types will insure the Community’s future existence.
Sherman County is centrally located within short transit times to many of the transportation centers in the central United States.

The MISSION of the Sherman County Economic Development Board is to plan, organize, educate and enhance development in the Loup City and Sherman County area by creating, retaining & expanding businesses, and improving the quality of life through increased employment, housing, and recreational opportunities.
